Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais

In Functional Integration®, as one lies on a low table, fully clothed, the teacher's hands gently guide one into new ways of moving and using one's body. The often minute movements feed infor mation directly into one's nervous system. Each lesson in this format is private and adapted to one's specific needs. Functional Integration® is useful for anyone, especially those with difficulty participating in classes or who desire the most rapid improvement.

  • Do you feel pain in your lower back, your neck, or your knees? Do you move with difficulty?
  • Do you suffer from chronic pain or have you had an accident recently?
  • Are you amusician, actor, artist or athlete who would like to improve his performance or self-image?
  • Do you have trouble focusing, or do you feel limitations in your daily activities?
  • Do you function with maximum effort and minimum grace and elegance?
  • Have you noticed that you have been slowly reduced to a set pattern of options and responses to varied external stimuli?

The A.T.M. (Awareness Through Movement®) lessons utilize the widely acclaimed movement education system of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais and draw on recent scientific breakthroughs in biomechanics, neuro physiology and stress-reduction. The "lessons", or exercises, developed by Dr. Feldenkrais are revolutionary because they communicate directly with your brain, the control center of your body. It is your brain and nervous system-not your muscles-which determines the health of your posture, the ease and comfort of your movement, and the extent of your flexibility. The process by which all physical learning takes place, from walking and talking, to playing an instrument or driving a car, is called sensory motor learning. Sensory motor learning is the natural way your body learns and improves. Step by step, your brain finds the most efficient and comfortable way to organize your body's movement, co-ordination, posture, and balance. A.T.M. lessons are designed to access the motor centers of your brain and provide the information your body needs for optimum improvement. With these remarkable exercises your nervous system will automatically form new neuromuscular pathways, creating improved body usage, health, and vitality. " Learntomaketheimpossible, possible, the possible, simple, and the simple, elegant!"
