The Music of Paul Voudouris

It Takes Two (Pop)

This 1993 collection of romantic Pop melodies was the first release on Paul's private, Hit Records label. Co-produced with guitarist Greg Westall and recorded and mixed by renound engineer Steve Shepherd (with the loving assistance of engineer Francis Buckley) this release received extensive radio play, with over five songs finding their way into the international charts. Containing eleven expertly crafted songs, this may be Paul's most commercial offering.

Track Listing

01 LA-DE-DA

I thought if I were big time
That I'd have it made
Caviar for breakfast
And magnums of champagne
Never any heartache
And never any pain
Life would be La-De-Da
La-De-Da
I went from rags to riches
And I made myself a name
Imagined it'd be different
But nothing really changed
Behind the mask of splendor
I still looked much the same
My life was La-De-Da
La-De-Da
My life was La-De-Da
I had no worries at all
(Manicures and pedicures)
All those titles and ovations
Didn't make this man
Without the validation
I was just as I began
I gave up my possessions
And all they meant to me
I found a quiet island
Upon the deep blue sea
I think about the big time
And how I used to be
When I was La-De-Da
La-De-Da
When life was La-De-Da
I had no worries at all
When I was...
I got no troubles at all
La-De-Da

02 Tendency Toward Dependency

He calls her morning, noon, and night
Can't stand to have her out of his sight
He'd do most anything to keep her near
Her independence is his greatest fear
He never could let go
He's got no self-control
He's got a tendency toward dependency
He doesn't like when he's alone
His co-dependent is the telephone
He never could let go
He's got no self-control
He just can't say "no"
He's got a tendency toward dependency
Just like a baby who cries for mom
He keeps returning to the place where he came from
He never could let go
He's got no self-control
He never could say "no"
It's still the same old show
He just can't let go
He's got a tendency toward dependency

03 Hannah

Hannah has innocent eyes
Hannah fills me with laughter
Hannah is a sweet surprise
All I know is how she makes me feel
I'll be there if Hannah should cry
Speak of love ever after
Watch me melt when she sighs
All I know is how she makes me feel
Oh Hannah
I reveal with Hannah
I've found love and Hannah is her name
Hannah has delicate hands
They're as soft as a whisper
Her every wish is my command
All I know is how she makes me feel
Oh Hannah
I reveal with Hannah
I've found love and Hannah is her name
She's my baby and she'll always be my girl
And no, I would not change a single thing
Not for all of the world
Oh Hannah
All I know is how she makes me feel
Oh Hannah
I don't conceal with Hannah
I've found love and Hannah is her name
Oh Hannah
I don't play games with Hannah
I've found love and Hannah is her name
Oh Hannah

04 Everybody Falls In Love

You can be short
You can be skinny or tall
You can be smart
You may not have it at all
You can live north
You can live deep in the south
You can have heart
You may be riddled with doubt
But remember this
We all find bliss
Sometime, somewhere
Everybody falls
Everybody falls in love
No matter who you are
Everybody finds someone to love
Everybody falls
You can be rich
You can be hopelessly poor
You can be witch
You may be bashful and pure
Remember this
We all find bliss
Sometime, somewhere
Everybody falls
Everybody falls in love
No matter where you hide your heart
Everybody finds someone to love
Everybody falls
You say you're all alone
That love has passed you by
Everybody falls

05 It Takes Two To Tango

You tell me that he really hurt you
Hurt you, oh, so bad
You wonder how he could desert you
God, he made you mad
Were you nothing but a victim
Did you never have a choice
It takes two to tango
Didn't you wear familiar clothes
The ones you wear so well
Didn't you blush just like a rose
On your way to hell
Were you nothing but a victim
Did you never have a choice
It takes two to tango
Were you nothing but a victim
Did you never have a choice
It takes two to tango
Weren't you once head over heels
Weren't you, oh, so sure
If she's to blame for how you feel
Who will be the cure
Were you nothing but a victim
Did you never have a choice
Oh, it takes two to tango
Hey, now, even if your arm was twisted
What happened to your voice
Oh, it takes two to tango

06 Boys Need Girls

Inside you for the first time
I slowly start to form
Floating on an ocean so warm
Your arms become my cradle
Your voice a lullabye
Rocking me from morning till night
Oh I have loved you such a long time
And girl I need you
Because we boys need girls
Your heart gives me direction
With all you say and do
The message of your spirit comes through
Return me to your oceans
Bathe me in your foam
Wrap me in your arms and take me home
Oh I have loved you such a long time
And girl I need you
Because we boys need girls
Boys need girls
Boys need girls
Because...

07 Isn't Love Stupid

With a silly little smile on my face
I go walkin' into walls, floatin' off in space
Yeah, it's true, you're for me and I'm for you
If everything is all right, then what's wrong
Will this turn into a fight before too long
Do we end at the beginning
Isn't love stupid and fun
First we do it, then we run
(Ah, but isn't love fun)
I often wonder if you feel like I do
When you're wounded, don't you heal
And change the old to new
But tell me who is gonna dry these eyes of mine
Is there anybody out there
Isn't love stupid and fun
First we do it, then we run
Go tell cupid he's not done
'Cause I don't wanna' do it and then run
(Oh, but isn't love fun)
Is there ever any reason for the things we say and do, now
Isn't love stupid and fun
First we do it, then we run
Go tell cupid, tell him that his work is not done
'Cause I don't wanna do it, and then run
Isn't love stupid
Now, isn't it, sometimes, a living hell
It can make you look foolish
It can make your heart swell
(Oh well)
Go tell cupid...
Tell him that his work has just begun
"Cause I won't do it till he's done
(It's no fun)

08 The Lands Within

If you show me yours, I'll show you mine
Let's go behind the doors and, maybe, have some wine
We'll take a look at what's inside
And have the hunger satisfied
If you touch me here, I'll touch you there
Let clothing disappear and lay your body bare
Since nothing's left that we can say
It must be time for us to play
(These feelings have meaning)
When you're in the lands within
There's no wrong and there's no sin
(I'm) waiting in the lands within
Loving arms (will) take you in
If I do like this, now, will you do like that
For just a little kiss I'd love you back
The stage is set, the moon is right
Why save it for another night
(These feelings have meaning)
When you're in the lands within
There's no wrong and there's no sin
(I'm) waiting in the lands within
My loving arms take you in
(The lands within)
And then we open up and let each other in
To lands that lie within within
And then we open up and let each other in
To the lands within

09 Things Change

You say you're down and you're feelin' so blue
With no one around, it seems that there's nothing to do
Sometimes it's spring
And sometimes you just stare at the walls
The telephone will ring for days
And then there isn't anybody to call
Ease your mind, yeah, leave your troubles all behind
'Cause things change
Like summer to fall
Things are changing, and so do we all
When skies are grey with never ending rainy days
And endless nights
When you're feeling all of your pain
There is a cure
It's the one thing of which I am sure
Ease your mind, leave your troubles all behind
'Cause things change
Like summer to fall
Things are changing, and so do we all
Like rivers to oceans
We keep changing
Yeah, things change
Nothing stays the same

10 Every Little Thing

There's something in the way you smile
That says, "Open your heart and stay for a while."
Oh, there's something in the way you touch
That fills me with love
I feel so much
You're with me and all that I need
Is here in your eyes
I fly away
In your eyes
My feelings go on holiday
Every little thing you do
Keeps me fallin' into love with you
Every little thing you do
Keeps' me fallin'
Someone said I'd better beware
To forget what we did
And all that we share
He doesn't know me
I'm just a kid
Who's lost in your eyes
I fly away
In your eyes
My feelings go on a holiday
Every little thing you do
Keeps me fallin' into love with you
Every little thing you do
Keeps me fallin'
Every little thing you say
Makes me love you more and more and more
If you love someone, let me know
If you're needin' someone
Please, let me know

11 The Breath Of Life

I've been wrong, I've been right
I've been in love and I've had some sleepless nights
I've seen good, I've seen bad
I've seen some things I wish I never had
I stumbled and often I fell
But I've always felt the breath of life
I've been closed, open too
I've laughed a lot, I've even, yeah, I've cried a few
I whispered and sometimes I yelled
But I've always felt
Well, I have no regrets
I would not hedge any bets
I'll breathe every breath until I die
And never ask why
I've played every card I've been dealt
And I've always felt the breath of life
Yes, I've always felt
The breath of life
I have always felt the breath of life
